Celebrating the Underdog
Cinco de Mayo celebrates Mexico’s victory over the French in the battle of Puebla. The French Army was bigger and much better prepared. The French had more men, and more weapons.
Mexico was certainly the underdog in the Battle of Puebla.
People love it when the underdog is successful.
We often root for the underdog, and get excited for the opportunity to watch someone overcome a really big challenge. History as well as the Bible is packed with stories where the underdog is successful. But many who are first will be last, and the last first (Mark 10:31).
What About When We are the Underdog?
Interestingly enough, we don’t always love it when we are the underdog. When we are up against a really big challenge, we can easily be overcome with fear, worry, and an inability to show our real ability.
Even when we don’t know why we should root for ourselves as the underdog, we can smile knowing that God, as well as the people closest to us can’t wait to see us rise up and win.
